| Protech Sets a New Standard in Performance and Value With New, Ultracompact PC |

Taipei, Taiwan – Protech Systems Co. Ltd., a perennial leader in the design and manufacture of PCs, boards and peripherals for industrial and commercial use, has release its new “book size” model, the PS-8590, for use in environments where speed, multitasking capability and ruggedness are required but space is at a premium, thus establishing a new mark for capability in an ultracompact format.
The PS-8590 is based on the Intel® 945GME + ICH7R chipset configuration, which ensures its compatibility with the latest processing technology, including any of the Core™ 2 Duo, Core™ Duo and Celeron® M designs. Consequently, the card can easily accommodate all the latest applications among manufacturers and developers, in addition to businesses and private users who need the highest level of stability in multitasking.
Its capacity is equally impressive, thanks to a 2 x DDR-2 DIMM socket offering as much as 2 gigabytes of memory. Consequently, the PS-8590 can run even the most intensive programs on the highest-performing processor configuration yet offer smooth, glitch-free operation. Various drive-bay configurations are offered, including one 2.5” SATA HDD and a slim CD/DVD-ROM or a slim FDD; or two 2.5” SATA HDD drives (without CD/DVD).
A slim silhouette of just 2.44” (62 mm) high and a footprint of only 10.24” by 9.45” (260 x 240 mm) mean the PS-8590 can fit where a unit of the conventional size and format would not. Therefore, it’s ideal for space-critical applications in the retail, food service, medical, manufacturing and aviation environments. Nevertheless, the PS-8590 offers the choice of either a PCI or a PCI-E slot for impressive expandability, along with a gigabit terminal for connection to a high-speed network. Four serial ports operating at either 5V or 12V and one parallel port let the user add all the peripherals needed for immediate use of the system. For audio the model is equipped with line-in, line-out and microphone jacks, plus the Realtek ALC655/AC97 code.
The PS-8590 is particularly suitable for the finance and telecommunications sectors, where branched networks are the norm and data integrity is an absolute requirement. In this regard, the new model carries the outstanding reputation of its maker, whose Protech name is synonymous with quality, ruggedness, performance and value.
