Taipei, Taiwan, Jan 15, 2006 -- Accelerating the integration and deployment of high-performance embedded PCs for a wide range of industrial applications, Protech Systems Co., Ltd., the leading provider of industrial computers, recently launched the EPC-5500 and EPC-5510 modular IPCs featuring support for socket 478 Intel® Pentium® M/Celeron® M Ultra Low Voltage processors with 400 MHz Front Side Bus and up to 2 GB of system memory using DDR333 MHz DIMMs. The EPC-5500/5510 comes with the Intel® 855GME/852GM chipset and offers a comprehensive array of I/O interfaces including four serial communication ports supporting RS232/422/485, four high-speed USB 2.0 ports, a 10/100 BASE-T Ethernet port and Gigabit LAN.
Designed for superior peripheral connectivity and data communications, the EPC-5500/5510 is equipped with a 200W AC power supply to provide a versatile and dependable platform for interactive kiosks and manufacturing automation. According to Rich Lee, Protech's Industrial Computer PM, with its modular construction, the EPC-5500/5510 conveniently installs in a rack or a wall mount configuration for quick integration with new or existing industrial computing infrastructures. The modular design dramatically reduces costly down time as the system can be conveniently pulled out, repaired, and reinstalled quickly.
Unmatched Functionality and Value
The proven CPU-chipset-memory combination gives the EPC-5500/5510 superior performance and stability in industrial environments. The EPC-5500/5510's multiple serial ports bring enhanced connectivity for high-speed data communications. The system supports 2.5" or 3.5" IDE hard disk drives for abundant data storage as well as a slim-type optical drive if required.
The EPC-5500/5510 uses the integrated Intel® Extreme Graphics 2 technology in the Intel® 855GME chip or the 32-bit graphics controller in the Intel® 852GM chip to provide high-quality and realistic 3D graphics and sharp images that are essential for graphics-driven applications. The VGA port connects the EPC-5500/5510 to a CRT or LCD monitor for display output. The graphics controller also highlights dynamic memory allocation technology that balances memory use between graphics and the system for optimum performance.
For applications requiring sound, the Intel® ICH4 Southbridge chip features an AC'97-compliant audio codec for multi-channel audio through the line-in, line-out, and Mic jacks on the EPC-5500/5510 rear panel. Like all Protech IPCs, the EPC-5500/5510 is engineered with strict revision control and industrial-grade durability along with long lifecycle components.
