Taipei, Taiwan, June 29th, 2006 ˇV Advancing the performance of compact form factors, Protech Systems Co., Ltd., the leading industrial PC maker, has released the BPC-8580 book-sized computer featuring the energy-efficient Intel® Pentium® M/Intel® Celeron® M processor and Intel® 855GME + Intel® ICH4 chipset.
The BPC-8580 comes in a slim, 3.3-kg package with a 400 MHz Front Side Bus and a DDR memory architecture supporting up to 2 GB system memory. Ideal for industrial and embedded applications demanding a high-performance, responsive, and ergonomic computer, the BPC-8580 supports ready integration and much-needed headroom for future I/O or display expansion via the optional PCI or AGP slot.
Strong Performance, Graphics and I/O Support
Stable serial and LAN communications to and from the BPC-8580 are made possible through four serial ports with +5V/+12V power output and a Fast Ethernet-based RJ-45 port. One serial port (COM2) is reserved for RS232/422/485-compatible devices to amplify serial connectivity. The BPC-8580 also promotes fast and convenient I/O connections via two high-speed USB 2.0 ports and audio jacks mounted in the system front panel.
Combined with the Ultra-Low Voltage Intel® Celeron® M or Low Voltage Intel® Pentium® M processor, the BPC-8580 is one of the lowest power consuming industrial computers that effectively reduces overall power costs and offers impressive performance per watt even on low voltage setups.
The BPC-8580's Intel® Extreme Graphics 2 technology offers a high-end, cost-effective, and graphics-driven platform for industrial applications. With its onboard VGA port, the BPC-8580 outputs video to a wide range of display devices including flat panel LCDs and CRT monitors. The optimized integrated engine delivers sharp 3D graphics with faster rendering, smoother motion and more extreme detail.
The Intel® Extreme Graphics 2 technology also supports the latest 2D and 3D APIs to flawlessly render graphics and multimedia with real-life output, making the BPC-8580 a suitable platform for gaming applications and high-definition surveillance. The display flexibility of the graphics engine enhances visual experience and provides the best answer for applications requiring 32 bpp and higher display resolution.
High-end Industrial Computing
ˇ§Protech pushes industrial computing performance further to the high-end scale through the BPC-8580's integrated graphics, seamless connectivity, and expandability making it capable of immediately handling the rigorous demands of general interactive kiosks, gaming machines, and bio-medical applicationsˇ¨, Protech's Embedded PC Product Manager Fred Lin said. Lin added that the BPC-8580 reliably executes multitask applications and delivers faster response time via its high-level memory and rapid system bus.
The BPC-8580 comes with slim-type optical and floppy disk drives without occupying critical chassis space. A 2.5" hard disk drive is available to provide a dependable, high-capacity data storage. With industrial-grade durability and strict harsh environment testing, the BPC-8580 outperforms the competition in terms of longer product life cycle and continuous, dependable operation.
Rounding-up the BPC-8580's I/O interface is a parallel port and PS/2 keyboard and mouse ports. Instant on/off and reset functions are provided by the front-panel power button. The BPC-8580 is manufactured using only RoHS-compliant components and processes making it absolutely safe for industrial use.
